When a Relative Dies

If you have had a death in the family and the decedent lived in and owned immovable (house, lot, building) property in Louisiana, you will need to hire an attorney in Louisiana to open the succession in Louisiana to get a judgment of possession rendered by the court in order for the property to be transferred to the new owner.

We do not charge an attorney's fee for the succession based on the value of the estate, but instead base it on the complexity of the succession. Remember, Louisiana law is different from the rest of the country, and you will need a Louisiana attorney for a Louisiana succession.
